How to properly maintain the chain on your SUR-RON

The chain is one of the most important components of your SUR-RON, whether it’s a Light Bee, Ultra Bee, or Storm Bee. It transfers the motor’s power to the rear wheel and is exposed to extreme stress, especially when riding off-road. A clean and well-lubricated chain not only ensures a smooth riding experience, but also extends the life of the entire drive train. Here you can find out how to properly maintain the chain on your SUR-RON so that you always get the most out of your bike.

1. What you need for care

Before you start, make sure you have the right tools and care products at hand:

  • Brush or cloth (Tip: There are special chain brushes and copper cloths available.)
  • Chain cleaner or mild detergent
  • Clean, dry cloth
  • Chain oil or chain grease
  • Optional: silicone spray to keep the chain clean longer after maintenance

2. Cleaning the chain

SUR-RON vehicles are often exposed to very harsh conditions. Dirt, dust, and mud get stuck in the chain and impair its function. Here you can find out how to clean the chain thoroughly:

  • Step 1: First, remove coarse dirt with a brush or cloth. This is quite easy to do with a chain brush or copper cloth.
  • Step 2: Apply chain cleaner or mild soapy water to the chain and allow the cleaning agent to work for a short time.
  • Step 3: Clean the chain thoroughly by removing dirt with a cloth or brush.
  • Step 4: Rinse the chain with warm water to remove any residue from the cleaning agent.

3. IMPORTANT: Dry the chain

Before lubricating the chain, make sure it is completely dry. A damp chain cannot absorb the lubricant properly, which can lead to insufficient protection and rust formation. If necessary, use a dry cloth to ensure that no moisture remains.

4. Oiling or greasing the chain

After cleaning and drying, it is time to lubricate the chain. For SUR-RON vehicles, we recommend high-quality chain oils or greases that are suitable for the riding conditions, for example, for wet conditions:

  • Chain oil: Apply the chain oil evenly to the entire chain, using one drop per chain link. Allow the oil to soak in for a few minutes so that it reaches the fine gaps.
  • Chain grease: Grease is thicker than oil and sticks better to the chain, but it also lasts longer. However, you will need more chain cleaner to remove the grease when cleaning. Grease is particularly advantageous if you want to re-grease less frequently.
  • Silicone spray: An additional aid that can be applied after lubrication is silicone spray. It effectively prevents dirt from sticking to the chain again.

Remove excess oil or grease with a cloth to prevent new dirt from sticking to the chain.

5. Regular maintenance

Depending on the area of application and riding conditions, the chain should be maintained regularly. Frequent off-road riding requires more intensive maintenance, while occasional riding on dry tracks requires less frequent cleaning. As a general rule, the cleaner the chain, the better your SUR-RON will perform.

You should check the chain after every ride and remove coarse dirt with a cloth. Ideally, you should also oil it after every minor cleaning, but at least every one to two months. In very dusty or wet conditions, more frequent treatment may be necessary.

Care as the foundation for a long life

Chain maintenance is essential for the longevity and optimal performance of your SUR-RON. A clean, well-lubricated chain not only ensures smooth power transmission, but also prevents unnecessary wear and tear. With regular maintenance and the right tools, your SUR-RON will be ready for any adventure – whether on the road or off-road.

Take care of your chain – and your SUR-RON will serve you well for a long time!
