For a long time, there were only teasers, but now it’s out: Sur-Ron has officially unveiled the Light Bee 2 —including the price. The second generation of the bike that put the e-moto scene on the map in the first place comes with significantly more power, a completely new battery, and—for the first time—an L3e version straight from the factory. The MSRP is €5,890.

In short: almost everything. According to Sur-Ron, the company has redesigned nearly every component from scratch. Visually, the bike stays true to the compact, motocross-inspired look of the original Light Bee —but underneath lies a completely new platform. The frame and swingarm have been reinforced, the seat is longer, and yet the weight remains around 65 kg.

1. New Hairpin motor with 24 kW. Peak power reaches up to 24 kW—by comparison, the current Light Bee X delivers 8 to 10 kW, depending on the model year. The rear wheel delivers 410 Nm of torque, and it accelerates from 0 to 50 km/h in 1.8 seconds. That’s in a league of its own.
2. Semi-solid-state battery. Instead of traditional lithium-ion cells, Sur-Ron uses a 78.5 V / 45 Ah battery with gel electrolyte and a capacity of approximately 3.53 kWh—developed in collaboration with cell manufacturer QingTao Energy. The technology falls between conventional lithium batteries and true solid-state batteries; it runs cooler, is considered safer, and offers high energy density. The battery remains removable and can be conveniently charged at home or in a workshop.
3. Gear drive instead of a belt. The high-maintenance timing belt found on earlier models has been eliminated. Instead, there is a robust gear drive with a reinforced 520 chain.

With 24 kW and 410 Nm, you need a suspension system that can keep up. The Light Bee 2 features a completely new KKE suspension system with 215 mm of travel—a significant improvement over its predecessor. It also comes with SWC Wheelie Control and IMU sensors designed to keep the bike under control even at full power. This should make all the difference, especially for riders switching from the Light Bee X: much more power without the bike becoming skittish.
The Light Bee 2 is available in an L3e version—which means you can legally ride it on public roads with an A1 license (ages 16 and up) or with a Class A or B license (ages 18 and up, depending on local regulations). This was a long-standing issue with the original Light Bee: Pure off-road versions are permitted in Germany only on private property or approved trails.
